PM Modi told the UN that humanity’s success lies beyond the battlefield.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated his call for world peace and urged reforms in top global organizations while addressing the UN General Assembly today. Emphasizing the importance of reform, he stated, “Reform is the key to relevance.”
During his speech at the “Summit of the Future” held at the United Nations headquarters in New York, PM Modi emphasized that humanity’s success depends on collective strength rather than conflict, and that global organizations must undergo reform to achieve world peace and development.
His message for peace followed the UN General Assembly’s adoption of a “Pact for the Future,” aimed at tackling 21st-century challenges such as climate change, conflict, and human rights.
A group of seven nations, led by Russia, resisted the adoption of the “Pact for the Future,” with Russia currently engaged in armed conflict with Ukraine.
Russia criticized the pact, arguing that dissatisfied countries were not given the opportunity for further negotiations.
“Regrettably, the United Nations adopted a Pact for the Future today. The UN violated its own principles by catering to a group of delegations from the so-called ‘beautiful garden,’ who have controlled the discussions from the start. The majority from the ‘jungle,’ like a herd, lacked the courage to protest and defend their rights. They will bear responsibility for the consequences,” stated Russia’s First Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Dmitry Polyansky, on his X account, as cited by TASS.
